Docking spot for boat
We can see on some artworks that there are plans to add a jetty/docks to base building. I suggest a improvement to the function of these parts : a docking spot for our boats.
For now it requires caution and patience to dock your boat in a place where it could both be easily accessible from land and from the open water.
The docking spot would be a part we could fit on our build the would allow the boat to quickly and neatly fit in a pre-selected space.
The way I see it is an interactable furniture that would "call" and guide the boat to its place if it is in a certain radius of it. This way, hauling items from our boat to our base wouldn't be so long and embarking on our next trip could be done quickly. Plus it would look neat to have our pontoon properly moored.
Bonus feature : assigning a spirit (water ?) and fuel (mana shards ?) to the spot would allow us to "recall" the boat from further away. Maybe even from the other side of the map if we died and need to get our ride back.

I dont care about having a dock per se, since I haven't found operating or getting on/off the boat to be any trouble at all.
But I do wish the boat was summonable. I never use it because if I die then it stays where I left it, and that makes a corpse run really suck. -

FreeEMTAdd hanging nets from the dock to protect any occupied boat from being attacked by ocean mobs while not sailing in motion.

JoshWould LOVE to see this, basically a dock platform buildable that, when approached with the boat, allows the player to hit "E" and automatically dock. It takes me so long (especially when sailing solo) to get my boat close enough to the docks I've built using just plain wood platforms. Even longer if I try and back the boat in so sailing away the next time is easier. This would be such a huge QoL improvement.

StormvetAgreed and not just "a dock" but something that when you get close in it "grabs" the boat so it's "properly" docked. Just an instantaneous "snap in" which only monitors forward/backward movement once the object is in the sensing zone. If proper clipping is on, "turning" the boat (while remaining still in terms of fwd/bkwd) might shift its center keel around, but only until a player-input fwd/bkwd movement is detected, the "snap in" function would stay dormant.

Brett <- name (S1LVA) <-discordSince the boat is buildable anywhere a dock isnt needed. What the boats need is an anchor option. giving the boat the ability to stop floating and stand solid in any case when dropping the anchor UNLESS in deep ocean water. This not only would give these other folks their "docking" option but leave the availability of designing your own dock. If at all need a reference theres a game called Atlas that you can look up and watch someone use the anchor on the boats. How they have it is basically what im referring to but in a nera-fied way<3

BreezyI like the idea of a parking spot at your base or as Brett mentioned, an anchor. For dock would be nice for aesthetic Sim-like purposes!

ParadalusHow about:
1. Making BOAT parts and not take damage hitting Built structures.. OR
2. Buildable DOCKS that do no damage to boats. OR
3. Buildable damage free zone for boats to park in, denoted by a highlighted area, we can place where needed. Maybe make it or all of these potential options required to be with in a spirit anchor zone so its not be abused. -

SteelbaneI made a pretty good dock with the current building pieces, but I think there are really 2 issues that people are having:
1) You need a way to 'get your boat back when you die', thats what makes the skimmer so useful.. I have a graveyard of ships in Act 1 still. I dont know what the solution is.. but making the boats unique and have names and summonable might be the solution.
2) Docking your boat shouldnt be so difficult, I spent a lot of time on 'Forgotten Seas' recently, you just run it into the shore, jump off and start unloading, there is no need for damage to be taken from the ground, or for the boat to be bounced backwards. -

TalThe mechanics of sailing remind me a lot of Valheim's sailing, you could find inspiration from there for an answer to this. For example, in Valheim when you leave the ship, it stops immediately. This is in case your ship gets way ahead of you if you fall off.
Something similar could be added; so in order to position a ship precisely, the player can jump off the ship to get it to stop instantly. -

KaiI would love these options, especially the idea of say, throwing a rope to a mooring point to "leash" the boat to a build point.
Personally, I also really wish we had the ability to safely beach a boat on a sandy shore.
Right now, it acts like hitting a brick wall, causing damage to the boat, rather than gently stopping on the sand.
